Antonio Godoli: Interventi alla Galleria degli Uffizi: 1998–2000 (Estratto dal fasc. 116)

Interventions on the Uffizi Gallery: 1908–2000

The author, who is also in charge of the architectural interventions, describes the reconstruction of the last three rooms of the Uffizi Gallery (those devoted respectively to Caravaggio, Rembrandt, and eighteenth century painting).
After reviewing the history of the rooms in question, and the works of art they contained from the eighteenth century onwards, the author describes the character of the intervention, the methods adopted and the reasons for a project that has led to the creation of a wholly new spatial organization of the rooms, in a context by now deprived of historical connotations in need of conservation or recuperation.
