Lo studio prende in esame una serie di opere lignee eseguite a Perugia tra il 1750 e il 1775: il coro della chiesa di San Severo, gli arredi della sagrestia della chiesa di San Francesco al Prato, un reliquiario conservato nel Museo dell’Accademia di Belle Arti, gli angeli della Cappella del Santo Anello in Duomo, la porta della sagrestia della Basilica di San Pietro. I manufatti sono stati esaminati attraverso un’indagine d’archivio e un’analisi materiale. In questo modo sono emerse una serie di novità in relazione alle tecniche esecutive, agli autori e ai soggetti impegnati nelle varie fasi di lavorazione delle opere.
Cabinet–making and woodcarving in Perugia from 1750 to 1775: investigations on documents, carpentry techniques and wood species
The study examines a series of examples of Perugian woodwork between 1750 and 1775: the choir of the church of San Severo, the furniture of the sacristy of the church of San Francesco al Prato, a reliquary in the Museo dell’Accademia di Belle Arti, the angels of the Chapel of the Santo Anello in the Cathedral, and the door of the sacristy of the Basilica of San Pietro. Based on archival investigation and material analysis, the results of this research enable the author to propose a series of new findings on woodworking techniques, and identify the cabinet–makers and woodcarvers employed in the various phases in the production of the works.
