Tusculum’s terraced sanctuary. II: new data for an analysis of the architectural complex

A large terraced sanctuary lies on the extreme southwest tip of the highland plain occupied by the town of Tusculum. At its monumental peak the temple complex sat on an imposing artificial platform, above a series of empty vaults in opus mixtum. Inside the temple, some masonry in opus incertum and reticulatum is from an earlier building phase. There is also evidence of the temple complex being restructured in later times. A recent autopsic analysis of the structures has unveiled the various architectural forms the sanctuary took as it developed over the years, and the different renovations it was subjected to.
